The lovely Lesley Nicol (Mrs Patmore) says the Downton Abbey, season three Ealing Studios set, (where the servant scenes are filmed) has become rather fishy now that rationing is over and the Crawley's are back to eating a more sophisticated menu:
“We have to serve fish in the next series as rationing is over now, but the problem is it gets very smelly after a few takes,” says Lesley Nicol, who plays head cook Mrs Patmore. “The food is more sophisticated so we’ve even had lobster in and that sat around the set for a long long time so as you can imagine it wasn’t very pleasant.”
“We have proper cooks in and everything to make the food for the scenes, but let’s just say none of us has any desire to eat it,” says the 58-year-old actress. “Honestly, you wouldn’t want to eat the food they make as it sits around for a very long time.”
According to Dan Stevens there has been no such effect on the Highclere Castle set thankfully:
“If they’re filming the scenes with lobsters in London, then all I can say is we haven’t got to eat them yet,” says Dan Stevens who plays Matthew Crawley in the popular series. “I can imagine it would get a bit humming but lobstergate hasn’t reached the Granthams.”
