The following article in Buckingham Today talks more about the charity and Lesley's role:
The five-month-old apricot miniature poodle, who is going to be trained to be an assistance dog for a person with a life-threatening condition, to detect an oncoming acute medical crisis, has been named Patmore in Ms Nicol’s honour.
Ms Nicol said: “I completely believe in what they’re doing. You talk to any of the people who have these dogs and they’ll tell you it’s life-changing.
“But there’s a waiting list. There’s an urgent need for more money to train more dogs.”
It costs just under £10,000 to train a medical assistance dog, along with the client and their family. There is currently a four-year waiting list for people needing a dog.
Patmore will be in puppy walking until she’s a year old. They she will start advanced training, learning to recognise an odour and alert a person.
How terrific of Lesley to use her celebrity to bring light to such a wonderful and deserving charity.
